“Some people want it to happen, Some wish it would happen and others make it happen!”
Mayura decided to do just the same. This keto success story talks about Mayura, who started her keto journey with us about 4 months ago. Mayura is a 26-year-old Homemaker from Telangana. She leads a sedentary lifestyle because half of her time used to go into her household duties.
Mayura became a mother last year in June. Ever since her delivery, she started to gain a lot of weight and it wasn’t coming any down. People told her that the weight will drop on its own gradually but that didn’t seem to happen at all and she started having a hard time. She was really frustrated and wanted to get rid of the excess weight that she had gained.
The relentless weight gain experienced by women during their adult lives is punctuated by pregnancies. Women often find it difficult to lose weight after giving birth, even with breastfeeding, and many continue to gain weight. Most women who gained the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy, remain 2-3 kgs above their pre-pregnancy weight a year after giving birth. A sizable minority, 15-20% of women, will hold onto even 5 kgs or more.
Apart from this, Mayura also has PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and also causes hair growth on the face and body. It is the most common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age and is associated with obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and insulin resistance.
The researches suggest that insulin resistance and obesity are behind the pathophysiology of the cause of PCOS. The ketogenic diet not only can promote weight loss, but it is insulin-sensitizing. Also, the Keto Diet helps lowering down androgen levels in the body and reducing Facial Hair and Breakouts on the skin as well.
A worried Mayura came across the concept of Keto Diet and finally approached us. She told us she was not able to lose any weight even after trying a lot of things altogether. She required a personalized ketogenic diet for reducing her Postpartum Weight Gain and PCOS at the same time.
We understood her requirements and expectations from the diet and ensured her that all of it will be taken into consideration throughout the course of this diet and so she finally decided to start her keto journey with us. A personal nutritionist was assigned to her who made sure to guide her through the diet and helped her follow the diet in the right manner. He kept her motivated and encouraged her to stay on track while on the diet.
She soon started to learn about how Keto Diet involves restricting carbohydrate intake to encourage the body to burn fat instead of glucose and works as an accelerated means of weight loss. She was amazed to know that consuming fats would actually make her lose weight.
The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carbohydrate diet that enables the body to burn the stored body fats and helps with a good amount of weight loss. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. Ketogenic diets can help in the reduction of blood sugar and insulin levels. It shifts the body’s metabolism away from carbs and towards fat and ketones.
