“Eliminate the mindset of can’t, because you can do anything.”
Just like this Sheetal made up her mind to try Keto Diet for PCOS And Hypothyroidism and never looked back! This keto success story talks about Sheetal Patil, who started her keto journey with us about 1 month ago. Sheetal is a 25-year-old Social Marketer from Chennai, India. She leads a hectic and sedentary lifestyle due to which she hardly got any time for working out.
WHAT IS A SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE?
First, you may be wondering what we are referring to when we mention a sedentary lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle is defined as a type of lifestyle where an individual does not receive regular amounts of physical activity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 60 to 85% of the population worldwide does not engage in enough activity making physical inactivity the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality.
In general, the population maintains sedentary lives and over-consumes calorie-dense foods. In particular, refined carbohydrates negatively impact metabolism and stimulate neural addiction mechanisms, which facilitate weight gain and obesity. There is abundant evidence that obesity increases the risk of elevated blood sugar. Similarly, there is ample evidence that weight loss mitigates those risk factors.
HER MEDICAL BACKGROUND
Sheetal also has Hypothyroid. At first, you may barely notice the symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue and weight gain. Or you may simply attribute them to getting older. But as your metabolism continues to slow, you may develop more obvious problems. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones to meet the needs of the body.
The thyroid is underactive. Thyroid hormones regulate metabolism or the way the body uses energy. If thyroxine levels are low, many of the body’s functions slow down. Hypothyroidism may not cause noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Over time, untreated hypothyroidism can cause a number of health problems, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility, and heart disease.
Even mild cases of hypothyroidism may increase the risk of weight gain and obesity. People with the condition often report having a puffy face as well as excess weight around the stomach or other areas of the body.
Apart from this, Sheetal also has PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and also causes hair growth on the face and body. It is the most common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age and is associated with obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and insulin resistance.
Obesity is a common finding in women with PCOS and between 40–80% of women with this condition are reported to be overweight or obese. Familial aggregation of PCOS strongly supports a genetic susceptibility to this disorder.
KETO DIET FOR HYPOTHYROIDISM AND PCOS
The good news is, you can overcome Obesity, Hypothyroidism, and PCOS with a healthy diet. And what would be better than a ketogenic diet? The Keto Diet not only can promote weight loss, but it is insulin-sensitizing as well. The researches suggest that insulin resistance and obesity are behind the pathophysiology of the cause of PCOS.
Keto Diet also helps lowering down androgen levels in the body and reducing Facial Hair and Breakouts on the skin as well. Additionally, it encourages healthy metabolism by burning off excess fat. Without going into too much detail, a ketogenic diet simply enables the body to function at a much more efficient level and this may allow for a more balanced production of thyroid hormones.
Keto is all about weight loss and improved health. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate-protein, and a low-carbohydrate diet that involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This change of fuel puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. A ketogenic diet is all about changing your body’s fuel source.
