“It’s always the little steps that count.”
Akanksha decided to make these little steps count! This keto transformation story talks about Akanksha, a 28-year-old Product Manager at a Healthcare Tech Company in Delhi, India. She leads a very busy and hectic schedule due to which she makes a little to no time for working out.
Because of leading a sedentary lifestyle and being unable to follow a healthy diet regime, she was always involved with her projects and assignments which bounded her to stay indoors.
She is always so caught up with her work that she didn’t even get time to take a proper meal and she always ended up eating calorie-dense meals leading to an increase in her weight.
It is well known that obesity and sedentary behavior coexist and that both are associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women. As inactive people gain weight, they become more inactive, and as a consequence gain more weight.
This becomes a vicious cycle that is starting at younger and younger ages, being sedentary increases insulin levels which, in effect, “locks up” fat in the fat cells. It can’t be burned when insulin is elevated.
Even though fat is not released from the fat cells into the blood, sedentary people show an increased amount of fat, or triglycerides, in the blood. Since the fat isn’t coming from the fat cells, it is likely coming from the diet.
Incoming carbohydrate, as we discussed above, is not allowed to enter the muscle tissue, so it gets converted to fat at an increased rate, pushing up triglyceride levels.
OBESITY AND WEIGHT GAIN
Obesity is one of the biggest health problems in the world. It’s associated with several related conditions, collectively known as metabolic syndrome. These include high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and a poor blood lipid profile.
People with metabolic syndrome are at a much higher risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, compared to those whose weight is in a normal range.
Besides her weight gain, she even had acne that she wanted to fix, A sudden increase in weight and unexplained weight gain is a sign of excess estrogen, low thyroid and insulin resistance, which are basically the culprits of hard to lose weight.
Acne Hormonal issues can lead to hormonal acne which are painful and large puss-filled pimples along the chin and especially the jawline area. Digestive Issues and digestive troubles like gas, bloating, and constipation which is influenced only by hormones.
Excessive levels of estrogens, cortisol, and certain kinds of prostaglandins can cause loose stools while a low thyroid may cause constipation.

THE KETO DIET
Akanksha was surprised to know how eating fats could make her lose weight. The keto diet aims to force your body into using a different type of fuel.
Instead of relying on glucose that comes from carbohydrates such as grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits. The keto diet relies on ketone bodies, a type of fuel that the liver produces from stored body fat.
Akanksha soon started to learn how the Keto Diet is a specialized diet that involves a highly restricted intake of carbohydrates and proteins and a high proportion of fat consumption and how the diet is considered to be an accelerated means of weight loss.
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy.
It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. Ketogenic diets can help in reduction in blood sugar and insulin levels. It shifts the body’s metabolism away from carbs and towards fat and ketones.
